Lithium laptop battery

We buy Lithium Ion Batteries.  Contact Junkbat if you have lithium ion batteries in need of recycling.

Lithium Ion batteries have become an increasingly popular battery source in recent years due to some distinct advantages over other battery types. Their high energy density, low self-discharge rate, low maintenance, and variety of options makes them an excellent choice from electric vehicles to consumer electronics and medical devices. Cobalt is an important component in many lithium-ion batteries as a highly effective transition metal element in the cathode.

From a recycling standpoint, any lithium ion battery that contains the metals cobalt, nickel, and/or aluminum has recyclable value. These include the Lithium-Ion battery types Lithium Cobalt Oxide (LCO), Lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxide (NMC), and Lithium Nickel Cobalt Aluminum Oxide (NCA).

Cobalt is often used in consumer electronics batteries including Laptops, Cell Phones, Cameras, Tablets, and Modems. It can sometimes be fond in electric vehicles, e-bikes, remote control devices such as drones and toy cars, power tools, and medical equipment.

Because of the availability of Cobalt as a resource, and the high price of mining and purchasing the metal, many manufacturers in recent years have sought to reduce or eliminate cobalt from Lithium Ion batteries. The inherent difficulty in doing so is that it is that Cobalt is an extremely effective transition metal used in the cathode of the battery during charge and discharge. These newer cobalt and nickel-less lithium ion technologies include Lithium-Ion-Phosphate (LFP), and Lithium Manganese Oxide (LMO). These types of technologies are becoming increasingly popular in electric vehicles because of the size and amount of cobalt that would be needed in such a battery, and in consumer electronics, drones, medical devices, and power tools.

Junkbat buys Lithium-Ion and Lithium-Ion Polymer batteries containing Cobalt, Nickel, and Aluminum. If the battery does not contain one or more of these metals, we do not purchase them.
